Nominate the Grand Marshal of the Cullman Christkindlmarkt Parade & Cullman Oktoberfest Bürgermeister
Each year, we honor one remarkable individual who embodies the spirit of Cullman—someone who leads with service, uplifts others with integrity, and celebrates our community’s rich German heritage. This person will be recognized as Burgermeister of Oktoberfest and serve as Grand Marshal of the Christkindlmarkt Parade—two of the highest symbolic honors in our cultural celebrations.
The Burgermeister is a traditional German title meaning “master of the citizens” or “mayor.” In Cullman’s Oktoberfest, the Burgermeister is more than a figurehead—they serve as a cheerful ambassador of hospitality, leading the ceremonial keg tapping and welcoming festivalgoers with pride.
The Christkindlmarkt Grand Marshal leads our beloved Christmas parade, bringing joy and holiday spirit while representing the values of tradition, kindness, and community connection.
We invite you to nominate someone who reflects these ideals—someone who serves with passion, lives with character, and actively promotes or preserves Cullman’s German roots. Whether through quiet acts of service or visible community leadership, this individual helps make Cullman a better, more vibrant place for all.
Bürgermeister & Grand Marshall Duties
The duties of the Official Cullman Oktoberfest Bürgermeister:
After the final selection of the Bürgermeister, the Bürgermeister will be responsible for participation in ALL events scheduled by Cullman Oktoberfest October 2-4, 2025.
Examples of past Bürgermeister events:
- Visit Oktoberfest sponsors
- Attend church dinners (if any)
- Attend the Bürgermeister Ball, traditionally the week before Oktoberfest.
- Attend Opening Ceremonies on Thursday night, tap kegs, and help with crowning of Miss Oktoberfest.
- Walk in parade leading up to Opening Ceremonies.
- Each night of Oktoberfest mingle and socialize with crowd, help with contests, and get the crowd going.
- Attend as many events as possible throughout the weekend (Senior Day, Opening Ceremony, Weiner Dog Races, Stein-hoisting Contests).
- Mingle with crowd and socialize.
- Wear German Attire when at Oktoberfest.
Christkindlmarkt Parade Duties:
- Lead the Christkindlmarkt Parade.
- Participate in Christkindlmarkt Tree Lighting Celebration.
- Participate in Christkindlmarkt Events leading up to the 2025 Cullman Christkindlmarkt.
